Copper wire thefts on the Belgian railway network are a serious and expensive affair. A simple calculation on Infrabel’s most recent awareness campaign will therefore be an ‘eye-opener’ for many people. That is exactly what Infrabel wants to divulge with its country-wide campaign: drawing attention to fighting this problem and to encourage people to report such crimes.

Infrabel resorted to, among others, to adapt a creative form of door-to-door communication to make residents living near railway lines aware. The residents received a leaflet in their letter box in the shape of a piece of electric wire. On it was all the information about suspicious circumstances and a contact point with telephone number people could call. In order to reduce the number of offences it is obvious that as many parties as possible keep their eyes open.
